Wellington Regional Growth Framework Priorities
Our current priorities
The Wellington Regional Leadership Committee approved the Wellington Regional Growth Framework’s three-year work programme at its meeting on 1 July 2021.
We have collated the work programme into four priority areas and information on these and the initiatives within each can be found here.
Housing supply, affordability, and choice
A lack of supply, limited choice, and decreasing affordability of housing is contributing to homelessness, overcrowding and poor health and educational outcomes.

Transport choice and access
Demand for public transport and use of active transport is growing, but car use remains the dominant mode of travel.
The transport system needs to make it easier for people to get around, while creating less congestion, fewer emissions and creating more liveable places…
Iwi/Māori housing, capacity and taonga
Access to affordable housing a significant issue for Māori.
Opportunities to improve housing for Māori are being developed and we have identified a need for Iwi/Māori organisations to have greater capacity when participating in these processes…
Climate Change and resilience
One of our challenges is how to balance existing built-up areas, a continuing demand to build in coastal and/or hazard prone areas and the risk of rising sea levels and other climate change impacts.
The region has a good base with regards to the natural environment, but we will need to do better…
